“There will always be a desire for something new, fresh and innovative, as well as a yearning and respect for timeless elegance and beauty.” ~ Helena Christensen
One of the greatest compliments I have ever received was someone saying I was “timeless.” I thought about it for a second and asked, “What do you mean by that? Sounds like a good thing, but please elaborate.” They replied, “You could be placed into any decade and you’d shine.” I’ve thought about this moment a lot over the years, this conversation took place when I was only a teenager. Here’s what it means to me now – when I put my mind to something I don’t stop until I figure it out. I like to read, learn, travel, and enjoy deep conversations with people that I love and sometimes even with strangers. I also think this compliment had something to do with fashion. I do love outfits from all different decades and have been known to over accessorize. Who doesn’t love the roaring 20’s flapper girl look, the 1930’s return of the silhouette and waist, the 50’s poodle skirt (a little preppy for my taste but fun nonetheless), the 70’s hippie and bohemian looks (my personal favorite – still rocking it), and even the crazy big-haired 80’s?!
Moving on to 2018, last night I threw on a pair of skinny jeans, a cute top, and black ankle strap heels as Jon and I went out for dinner and cocktails. We had a great conversation about the blog and my ideas for its future. He looked at me from across the table and asked, “Are you ever going to tell me the title you decided on?” I laughed and said, “Of course! The title is Timeless.” As I started to explain the reasons behind the title, he looked at me and said, “I love it.” He went into detail about his thoughts behind the meaning of the word timeless. He explained to me he had always thought a great piece of art or an everlasting song had to be timeless. If you are too specific to what is going on in the world currently, your output cannot stand the test of time and it won’t make much sense or speak to future generations.
I’m not saying everything written here will be some timeless work of art, but I love the inspiration behind the word. And when the person who means more to you than anything looks at you with a huge smile on their face, giving you their stamp of approval, and saying, “I love it” that’s all the confirmation you need to begin your Timeless journey.
I love you and the words you speak and the desire you have is amazing ! I will always admire you and love you! You are so amazing Cigi!
